What does a Front of House (FOH) Sound Engineer do?
The FOH engineer sits out in the audience area and mixes the sound that the crowd hears. They are responsible for making sure the vocals are clear, the instruments are balanced, and the overall mix sounds incredible for the audience.
What does a Monitor Engineer do?
A Monitor Engineer sits on the side of the stage and mixes the sound specifically for the band. They control the stage wedges and In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) so the musicians can hear themselves perfectly, which is crucial for a great performance!
What is a Stage Patch Technician?
Patch techs and backline technicians are the unsung heroes of smooth running festivals and gigs. They manage the stage layout, run the microphone cables (patching), and ensure rapid, seamless changeovers between different bands.
Do I need an AV Technician or a Lighting Operator?
If you are running corporate presentations, video walls, or live streams, you need an AV Technician. If you want a dynamic, custom-designed light show for a concert or party, you need a Lighting Operator/Designer.
What does a Production Manager do?
A production manager oversees all the technical and logistical elements of a show. They coordinate the audio and lighting crews, manage equipment rentals, and ensure everything runs safely and on schedule so the event organizer can simply focus on enjoying the event!
What is a VJ (Visual DJ)?
While an audio DJ mixes music, a VJ mixes live video and visual effects! They create dynamic, customized video backdrops, LED wall graphics, and projections that react perfectly to the music—ideal for concerts, festivals, and high-energy parties.
Can the live sound engineer record my show?
Yes! Our sound engineers can easily set up a recording straight from the Front of House mixing desk. Whether you just want a simple stereo mix for your archives or a full multi-track mobile recording for a live album, just let us know in advance so we can bring the right hard drives, laptop with DAW (software on a computer for multitrack recording) and connections/gear.
Can I take a camera feed from the FOH desk?
Yes, absolutely! We are always happy to provide a live audio feed from the desk to your videographer’s camera. As a matter of standard industry etiquette, we simply ask that you credit “Live Audio mixed by The Rock Factory” if you use our recorded tracks in your final published video! We also ask that you carefully read the next question in this Faq below this one and, as a result, recommend recording a stereo pair of room microphones, or at least one high-quality room microphone, to mix with the desk output.
Why does the front of house recording not have my guitar or bass in it? Why are the vocals so loud?
This is very common with a basic “stereo board mix”! If a band has loud guitar or bass amps on stage, those instruments are naturally filling the venue on their own. To make the show sound balanced for the audience, the mixing engineer has to turn those loud instruments down in the main PA and push the vocals up. A basic L&R desk recording captures only what comes out of the main speakers, which is why it sounds unbalanced later. The sound engineer was mixing for balance in the room for the audience, but those loud onstage instruments are no longer there when you play it back after the event, away from any onstage audio spill.
If you want a perfectly balanced recording, we highly recommend asking us for a multitrack recording—that way, you capture every individual instrument and can mix them perfectly in post-production, or add them back into the stereo mix in post.

Why Hire a Professional Sound Engineer?
A great sound system is only half the equation. Having an experienced engineer behind the desk ensures your event runs flawlessly from load-in to pack-down.
-
Precision Setup & Tuning: We don’t just plug things in. We choose the right microphones, place the speakers strategically, and “tune” the system to perfectly match your venue’s unique acoustics.
-
Professional Soundchecks: Before the doors even open, we run comprehensive soundchecks. We balance the volume and EQ the monitors so the artists feel totally comfortable on stage, which always leads to a better performance.
-
Active Live Mixing: We don’t just set the volume and walk away. We actively mix the show—riding the faders so every guitar solo cuts through and every vocal is crystal clear, adapting instantly to how the crowd absorbs the sound.
-
Rapid Troubleshooting: Live events are unpredictable. If a cable dies or a microphone suddenly feeds back, our crew has the experience to identify and resolve the issue in seconds so the show keeps rolling.

Why Hire a Professional Lighting Operator?
A great lighting designer does more than just turn the lights on. They create the atmosphere, elevate the energy, and ensure your event looks spectacular from every angle.
-
Custom Lighting Design: We design unique visual experiences tailored exactly to your event’s theme, colors, and venue to leave a lasting impression on your guests.
-
Dynamic Live Operation: From elegant, slow color-washes to high-energy, beat-synced concert strobes, we operate the lights live to perfectly match the mood and momentum of the room.
-
Safety & Rigging Expertise: Professional lighting fixtures are heavy and draw a lot of power. Our technicians are trained in safe rigging practices and power management so you have zero safety concerns.
-
Total Peace of Mind: We handle the complex setup, programming, and inevitable troubleshooting, allowing you to completely focus on running your event.
